Recently PokerStars has made quite a few interesting signings, amongst them are former Seinfeld star Jason Alexander, baseball player Orel Hershiser and rapper Nelly. And you can add one more interesting signing to PokerStars’ growing list of online poker players since they recently signed Argentina football player Juan Sebastian Verón to their roster.

Verón has been involved in the world of football since the mid 90’s and during the World Cup he has played a major roll in Argentina’s games. Away from the field, the two-time South American Player of the Year will also be pivotal to PokerStars’ campaign to promote internet poker in Latin America. PokerStars has already held a few casino poker events in Latin America which have been organised through the popular LAPT organisation.

Verón’s signing comes at a time when poker games are really starting to take off in Argentina. Another reason for this sudden rise in popularity is that the Pokerstars will be holding the LAPT Grand Final in Argentina. With one of Argentina’s best football players openly promoting holdem poker, this will more than likely make the game even more popular.
