A Teenager Talks To His Physician About His Alcohol Problems And Discovers That He Needs Alcohol Detox
Denny is a seventeen-year-old teen who has finally determined that he needs to go and see his physician about his hazardous drinking. At first, Denny thought he would be able to simply go on the world wide web, look for some basic alcohol info and establish whether or not he was alcohol dependent.
Not surprisingly, he found many websites that outlined some of the common alcoholism symptoms. That’s the encouraging news. The less positive news, sorry to say, was that Denny manifested more than a few of these alcoholism symptoms.
Alcohol Dependency Symptoms Revisited
For instance, Denny has been drinking significantly more than usual and he has begun to have more highly charged spats with the young girl he is dating. In the same way, for the first time in his life he has been going through sleeping difficulties. Likewise, Denny repeatedly has felt depressed and on an escalating basis he has been demonstrating less than usual attention to detail in the classroom. In addition, he has felt highly stressed and more nervous on a day-to-day basis and for the past eight or nine months he has exhibited murky thinking in the classroom. Given that Denny has been exhibiting all of these symptoms, he was rightly apprehensive about his hazardous and excessive drinking.
So Denny decided to call his doctor and make an appointment. As it happens, this was difficult for Denny because his doctor was also his parents’ family doctor. The springboard for his uneasiness was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and make known his careless and abusive drinking behavior to his healthcare practitioner.
When Denny arrived at the family physician’s office, he explicitly notified the doctor about the fear he has about his hazardous drinking behavior. When the family healthcare practitioner asked what was prompting this worry, Denny affirmed that he had gone on the world wide web and read about alcohol dependency and especially about alcohol dependency symptoms. He then articulated all of the alcoholism symptoms that he undoubtedly thought he has.
A Thorough Physical Exam and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab
The family physician told Denny that it was wise of him to attend to his drinking problems, he gave Denny an exhaustive physical assessment, and suggested that he talk to his Mom and Dad about signing into an out-patient alcohol rehab and alcohol detoxification program that was run by Doctor Resni ck, one of his doctor accomplices who is an alcohol dependency specialist.
Furthermore, when Denny articulated that he has been feeling a sense of melancholy to a greater extent, the family doctor told Denny that depression and alcoholism often take place in the same individual. As a result, the family healthcare practitioner also suggested that Denny talk to his Mother and Father about getting counseling in order to concentrate on his sense of despair. In fact, Denny can go to the local counseling center and make an appointment with Doctor Wallace, a well known counseling psychologist who specializes in treating youth.
The Merits of Addressing Your Drinking Issues and Getting Encouraged About Making Positive and Healthy Changes in Your Life
The healthcare professional made it a point to inform Denny that he might not inevitably be addicted to alcohol, but that he was certainly drinking in a careless manner. In other words, Denny was engaging in teen alcohol abuse. The healthcare practitioner then notified Denny that the reason he suggested alcohol treatment in the first place was because he wanted him to deal with his drinking problems, make sure that he prevented them from worsening, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to fully stop drinking.
Everything considered, by effectively treating his drinking problems, Denny would be able to get his drinking problems under control and refrain from the negative cycle that could almost certainly result in alcoholism.
Denny understandably did not look forward to facing his Mother and Father about his drinking problems and his depression. And he undoubtedly did not want to face the thought of getting admitted into an alcohol rehabilitation program. And lastly, he was not thrilled about going to a psychologist about his sense of despair. Irrespective of these apprehensions, nevertheless, Denny in point of fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in quite a few months because at last he gave up making excuses for himself and at long last decided to do something productive about his excessive and careless drinking. And it was clear that this decision and helped to foster his personal success and self esteem and further improve upon his commitment in his dating relationships.
