A Young Man Decides to See His Family Physician About His Depression and His Alcohol Problems
Larry eventually decided that he needed to go and see his healthcare professional about his unhealthy drinking. At first, Larry thought he would be able to basically go online, look for some basic alcohol info, and come to a decision whether or not he was addicted to alcohol. Not surprisingly, he discovered quite a few websites that highlighted some of the common alcoholism symptoms.
That’s the positive news. The less than encouraging news, regrettably, was that Larry showed signs of several of these alcoholism symptoms.
Alcohol Addiction Symptoms: Some Illustrations
For instance, Larry was drinking quite a bit more than customary and he was starting to have more fiery bickering with the woman he was dating. Furthermore, for the first time in his life he was going through sleeping problems. Likewise, Larry repeatedly felt depressed and on an ever increasing basis he had been displaying less than usual concentration at his job.
Furthermore, he felt stressed out and more jumpy on a regular basis and for the past few months he exhibited befuddled thinking while at work. Seeing as Larry demonstrated all of these symptoms, he was excusably apprehensive about his hazardous drinking.
So Larry finally made up his mind to call his family healthcare practitioner and schedule an appointment. To tell the truth, this was problematic for Larry because his family doctor was also his parents’ healthcare practitioner. The root of his worry was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and divulge his careless and hazardous drinking behavior to his family healthcare practitioner.
When Larry arrived at the family physician’s family healthcare practitioner’s office, he openly told the family doctor about the apprehension he felt about his abusive drinking behavior. When the family physician asked what was inducing this fear, Larry articulated that he had gone on the Internet and read about alcoholism and especially about alcohol addiction symptoms. He then listed all of the alcohol dependency symptoms that he undoubtedly thought he possessed.
An In Depth Physical Evaluation and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment
The family healthcare practitioner informed Larry that it was intelligent of him to focus on his problem drinking, he gave Larry an in depth physical assessment, and suggested that he go into an out-patient alcohol treatment center that was managed by one of his doctor partners.
Moreover, when Larry expressed the fact that he had been feeling depressed more habitually, the physician told Larry that alcoholism and depression often occur in the same individual. For that reason, the family doctor also recommended that Larry obtain counseling to tackle his gloom.
The Significance of Handling Your Drinking Issues
The healthcare practitioner made it a point to tell Larry that he might not inevitably be an alcoholic, but that he was evidently drinking in an irresponsible manner. The healthcare practitioner then notified Larry that the reason he recommended alcohol rehabilitation in the first place was because he wanted him to face his drinking problems, make sure that he stopped them from getting worse, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to absolutely quit drinking.
Everything considered, by successfully treating his problem drinking, Larry would be able to get his drinking issues under control and abstain from the negative sequence of events that could almost certainly lead to alcohol addiction.
Certainly, Larry did not want to face the thought of getting registered into an alcohol rehabilitation program. Nor was he ecstatic about going to a therapist about his depression. In spite of these anxieties, conversely, Larry in fact felt some psychological relief for the first time in many months because he eventually gave up making excuses for himself and at long last finally made up his mind that he needed to do something productive about his drinking activities.
